Girls LAX loses to Beverly in a close game

On Wed, April 4, the Samo Girls Lacrosse team narrowly lost to Beverly Hills High School, with a final score of 8-9. Beverly began the game with strong attacks on goal and was able to obtain an early 3-1 lead. But after consecutive goals from Julia Sarcia (’19), Jaelyn Anderson (’19) and Deniz Uzun (’19), Samo was able to pull ahead 5-3. Samo’s growing momentum was stinted when Iris Watanabe (’18) suffered an ankle sprain after getting hit with a lacrosse stick and Beverly was able to cut Samo’s lead down to only one goal at halftime. The game continued to be close going into the second half, but Samo was able to hold onto a comfortable lead. They were up 8-7 in the latter part of the half, but in the last minutes of the game Beverly was able to score two goals to win the game. Even though they lost, co-captain Uzun is satisfied with the teams high effort play throughout the entire game.“Our new players did really well with new plays and everyone kept playing, especially midfielders who were in almost the whole game,” Uzun said. “People drove to the goal a lot and so many new players who never have before, made goals. If anyone got pushed down they got up right away and kept playing without giving up.”Their next home game will be on Friday, April 13 against Culver City High School at 5 p.m.
