Girls volleyball easily defeats Beverly

On Friday, Sept. 21, the Samo girls volleyball team faced off against rival school Beverly Hills High. Samo defeated the opposition by a landslide, with three straight sets ending in a huge victory. After the first 10 minutes of the game, it became clear that it was going to be a breeze for the Samo team. They maintained at least double the opposing team’s score at all times, ending the first set with a 15 point lead.“We had great chemistry and were stoked to beat a Samohi rival,” Tabitha Mitchell (’21) said. The team never missed an opportunity on the court. They executed every bump, set and spike with precision and power, leaving the Beverly Hills team utterly helpless. Alternatively, whenever the opposing team spiked the ball, there was always a Samo team member willing to hit the ground to save the ball and get the point. The second and third sets also ended with a score of 25-8, finishing an amazing game. The team was sure to lend support and good vibes to everyone around them. Those on the court helped each other out whenever possible, and those on the bench chimed in with chants and songs to boost morale and provide support. In the end, the difference between these two teams was chemistry. The Samo team could communicate incredibly efficiently, making sure someone was always on the ball, even in a split second decision. Because of this, while miscommunication often resulted in losses on the Beverly Hills side, no such errors happened to the Samo team, allowing them to keep landing hits and racking up points. This is no doubt one of many future wins for this team. There will no doubt be plenty more as the school year progresses.
