Girls' volleyball triumphs Hawthorne
On Tuesday Oct. 8, Samo’s girls volleyball team took on Hawthorne in an action packed, high intensity game. The Samo girls dismantled Hawthorne easily winning in three sets and holding Hawthone to under 10 points in every set. The girls got out to a hot start, easily winning the first set 25-6. In the second set, head coach Liane Sato put in the second unit for the next set. Players Eve Brock (’21), Sophia Cooper (’22), Savannah Yassin (’20), and Satya Wheeler (’21) showed out in the second set and lifted Samo to another win with a score of 25-7. It is rounding up on the third set, and Samo is approaching a sweep of Hawthorne. Many of the teams starters have returned to wrap up the game for Samo, leaving nothing to chance. Spikes are being slammed left and right, the team is connecting on all cylinders. They easily handled Hawthorne once again in the third set, winning with a score of 25-5. This game vs. Hawthorne was quite a blowout, to say the least. Star player Ella Dreibholz (’21) highlighted how the team was able to take their loss to Culver and recoup for the game versus Hawthorne “The Hawthorne game gave us a chance to get our team chemistry and mental game back on track after losing [to Culver]. Working on these things really helped us be successful that game and win,” said Dreibholz. The girls’ next game is against Beverly Hills at home on Monday Oct. 14 in the North Gym.
