Same boys water polo drowns all doubt in win over Beverly Hills
On Thursday, Oct. 19, Samo’s varsity boy’s water polo team won by a landslide against Beverly Hills High School with a final score of 17-4.By the beginning of the second quarter, Samo was already 10 points ahead. They took their lead and ran with it. Samo repeatedly pushed Beverly Hills to the end of their possession, preventing them from taking any shots or scoring any goals. By halftime, the score was 11-0.In the third quarter, Beverly Hills began to fight back, but not enough to surpass Samo. The winning side took the opportunity to test different strategies and take shots they might not have otherwise. Tim Eagle-Serrano (’18) scored a long-range goal that nobody expected and had the audience out of their seats. With such a wide gap, Beverly Hills could not return from the ending score of the third quarter, 15-2.In the final quarter, it was smooth sailing for Samo. They were secure in their win. Alex Weng (’19) and Sebastian Zapatero (’19) used rapid passing to confuse the other team, allowing Quinlan Plukas (’19) to score a goal. Team captain Sawyer Koetters (’19) is proud of his team’s success so far in the season and is confident in their games leading up to the CIFs.“We have the chance to make a deep playoff run, so we are trying to get some more plays and passing patterns in before CIF starts. Once the playoffs start, it’s just going to be staying as rested as possible without losing our competitive edge,” Koetters said. Samo’s next home game is on Oct. 26 against El Segundo High School. It is considered one of the tougher water polo teams in Ocean League and will prove to be an interesting match.
