Girls volleyball crushes Beverly Hills and eyes CIF
On Tuesday, Oct. 17, the North Gym stands were flooded with eager onlookers ready to watch the girls volleyball team beat Beverly Hills High School, 3-0.Before the beginning of the first set, Samo was confident that they would play cohesively and end the game victorious. The energy in the gym was light and excited, and the rowdy crowd was cheering the team on. Dylan Leight (’20) was looking forward to what the game had in store.“We knew we had the skill and teamwork to win the game, we just needed to focus and push ourselves. If we all played hard, it would be a really fun game,” Leight said.The girls started the game strong and together were able to rack up the points, taking a quick lead. Before the spectators even realized it, Samo had defeated Beverly in the first set, 25-7.Samo went into the second set with the confidence and thirst for another win. The team jumped into an immediate lead and the spectators began to chant for the team, echoing their cheers throughout the gym. With skill and hard work, Samo finished the second set with another win, 25-13. Varsity player Channing Baker (’20) was thrilled with the high performance level from her team during the first two sets of the game.“It was a great first two sets.” Baker said. “All the players really pushed themselves and communicated strongly on the court.” Heading into their final set, Samo knew that one more win would result in a victory for the entire match, but a loss would continue the game for an additional fourth set. Tired but ready to end the game strong, the team walked onto the court with intense determination. They worked hard and were able to end with another win, 25-9. The team gathered together and rejoiced in their victory. Varsity player Annalise Wille was excited about the future of their team.“Going into the last few games of season, our team is looking strong. We play well together and with focus I think we can continue to win,” Wille said.Coach Sato was proud of the team’s performance during the league games, and sees a bright future as they head towards CIF.
