Girls tennis prepares to demolish on the court
After losing the CIFs in 2016, girls varsity tennis hopes to have a strong comeback this year. Coach Wilston Poon is constantly pushing the girls during practice so that when the time comes, they will be ready to defeat their opponents on the court. “[Our] goals for the season are to win league again and make a good run at team CIF playoffs,” Poon said. The team has been focusing on specific parts and to improve their game and hopefully help them get to reach their ultimate goal. “This season we are really focused on point play and match play,” Poon said. “Being more competitive in our tough matches and closing matches out. We have been working hard on our doubles skills and match play to get them ready for competition.”Poon’s technique has improved players and will hopefully continue to strengthen the players for the upcoming season. “So far we are doing really well. We are matching up with the tough teams and are competitive so far,” Poon said. Both Poon and the players have high hopes for this season and hopefully, they will win league and get farther in CIF tournament.“I think we will do very well this season because we have a strong team of returning players and new players. We are getting ready for our league matches by practicing hard with our teammates everyday and trying to improve our game,” Parker James (’19) said.
