Will Yoga-Urt be the downfall of dairy ice cream?

Yoga-urt is Santa Monica’s newest vegan ice cream shop and it employs healthy ingredients and eco-friendly material. It is located on Ocean Park Blvd, replacing the former frozen yogurt store, Treats.
The convenience of replacing another frozen yogurt shop allowed the process of getting permits and opening to be swift and easy. As Yoga-Urt was already supplied with machinery and a proper workplace from the previous establishment, Treats, they were up and running in no time.
During my visit, I indecisively chose the chocolate bliss topped with fresh strawberries. This delicious frozen treat was rich in taste and had perfectly balanced flavors. Samo junior, Oliver Mewton (’23), also had very strong feelings about Yoga-Urt.
“It’s very smooth, almost just like regular ice cream. There were so many toppings to choose from and the place overall had a great vibe...Definitely would give it an 8.5 out of 10,” Mewton said.
Its founder Melissa Schulman, a former yoga studio owner, founded the business in 2015. She made it her goal for Yoga-Urt to provide its customers with healthy, organic and delicious ice cream without the lactose. All of their ice cream is made from scratch, using almond milk as an alternative to dairy milk. Alongside that, Yoga-urt is a Glendale certified Green Business; they use compostable paper containers, utensils and stickers and they recycle their ingredients to make cookies and pie crusts.
After my excursion, I eagerly await my next visit to this extraordinary vegan ice cream shop. With its combination of spectacular tasting ice cream and great service, Yoga-urt will definitely be a massive hit. I fully recommend this business and heavily encourage Samo students to give it a try as it far exceeds vegan ice cream standards.
