Girls' golf tees off

Samo girls’ golf is officially back in season after an absence credited to the COVID-19 pandemic. While the team may be small—with only six members in total—they are incredibly determined and have recently started their season with optimism.

“I have six great team members who work hard and try to improve every week. The league is very tough and our challenge is to stay competitive in every match,” girls’ golf coach Daniel Ramos said.

Last year, girls’ golf was able to play a couple of matches during the spring when hybrid learning started. The team consisted of just enough golfers to be a part of matches against other schools, so the athletes were proud of simply being able to play.

This season, the team practices at Rancho Park, and have matches every Tuesday and Thursday. Thus far, they have participated in seven matches, but are still awaiting a win. However, hopes are still high after progress was made in their match against South Torrance High School. While winning a match is one of the team’s aspirations, golfer Kara Best (’22) expressed that they also prioritize other values.

“This season, we have more players and I think our main goal is just doing our best, improving and having a good time. Even if we lose, it’s still fun to play with the team,” Best said.
