After ending their 2021 season with a 2-8-1 record, Samo’s varsity girls’ softball team started their 2022 season on Feb. 18 at Wiseburn Da Vinci High School after two canceled games against Hawthorne High School two days prior.
Jenny Forster, the head coach of the softball team has a positive outlook for this season after the team’s 2022 season where they finished with a worse record than they had hoped for.
“We were happy to have played and had the experience after a rough year but we wished to have been more competitive in our games. Ultimately our goal this year is to make playoffs. We also hope to grow as a program and consistently play our game in every competition,” Forster said.
This season the team will play in a total of 28 games, with multiple games against Palos Verdes, Mira Costa and Redondo High School.
Maya Knauf (’23) is looking forward to seeing what the team can do this year, and is hopeful for the team’s future after their 13-0 win in their first game.
“Last season was a little rough, but I think we have great talent this year and we can definitely turn a new leaf. If our first game is indicative of what’s to come, we should be in for a fun season,” Knauf said.
The team hopes to continue their winning streak with their first home game on March 8 against Torrance.
