The Hypocrisy Within Politics
With the emergence of the two-party system, the societal norm of Americans has been to establish a nationalistic viewpoint and patriotism towards their own political party. The loyalty to a specific political party, however, begins with the leaders in charge that claim assertions but continuously go against their morals in other aspects. The practice of morals and ethics is completely flawed in today’s political office- and remains flawed as societies begin to show loyalty to these corrupt leaders working in a corrupt system. With that being said, the flaws that are constantly overlooked within the media pour into schools, like Samo, when students get sucked into advocating for a specific political party or the hypocrisy within them.
An example of such corruption could be viewed through the lens of “pro-life” anti-abortionists that claim to care for the life of innocent unborn life but continue to fund pro-gun organizations such as the NRA. Pouring funding into an organization that continues to help the populace strip innocent humans from life daily is the opposite of any claim to “save an unborn child’s life”. The main aspect of campaigns brought forth to the American public by these politicians is marketing and campaigning- heavily thought-out reasoning that almost never aligns with their previous claims. Moreover, individual politicians have hypocritical tendencies to go against their public words. For example, Ben Shapiro publically advocates that abortion is murder and actively preaches pro-life ideology. However, he publicly practices Orthodox Judaism- which preaches the idea that human life begins on the first breaths taken by the child on the day of birth.
Political parties will continuously advocate for solutions to issues- but ensure that their path to get there is far from their opposing political parties. When looking at the issues of gun control in today's society, realize that both the democratic and republican party refer to the second amendment that states firearms are necessary in order to protect the populace. With the goal of protection in mind of both political parties, the democratic party views that guns should be protected through a militia that can oversee the nation, while Republicans advocate that the individual should be able to hold their own gun for protection. It is no secret that there are differing opinions on the matter of gun control, but politicians in power create a divide when they continuously shut down the ideas brought forth from their opposing party.
This can even be seen within the Samo community. For the most part, students show a loyalty to their political party- one that can sometimes break friendships and viewpoints on individuals. Students like Alise Fischer (’24) have noticed the divide that exists between political parties at Samo.
“The Samo community is always divided between political groups. They follow whatever a political party believes even though they don’t realize how hypocritical it all could be,” Fischer said.
There is a tendency within the Samo community to shame those of the opposing political party and make mockery of their opinions instead of listening to alternative interpretations of problems. By instantly diminishing those that think differently, the potential to evoke a collaborative environment is lessened. Furthermore, a sense of isolation arises amongst Samo students as they stray away from people with differing beliefs to them and leads to them lessening the potential of their high school experience- simply due to the idea that students with altering viewpoints cannot coexist. And thus, when politicians that take headlines and overpower students' media begin to cause divides in societies, the student body begins to face the same divide in viewpoints, ultimately ruining the unification of a school.
