Dead and Deader, Drowning in bad creativity,
Imagine you’re in bed with your favorite snack shuffling through the streaming platforms you stole from your friends. You find a movie that looks interesting but it’s just boring and repetitive. You’d think a show will be different, but it’s the same result. So instead of looking for newer shows, you just give up and rewatch a movie instead. That’s when you know older shows were way more creative than the new ones.
In these recent years, movies and tv shows haven’t been really good at all. All it’s been recently is remake after remake and it’s just getting bland at this point. Like Disney’s Lion King or Pinnochio? Come on, those were like horror movies compared to the animated ones, and it’s even worse with the lack of attention they put into it. It feels like there’s been no originality coming from those remakes and it’s not only Disney. Nearly every streaming platform is running out of so many ideas, they’re bringing back old shows or remaking them. Need an example? Harry Potter is coming back and it’s clearly shown to the audience that it’s unneeded for a complete makeover.
There’s been talk about a Harry Potter tv-show remaking all the movies and cast. Basically, they’re starting from scratch and you can definitely tell that it’s unnecessary. It’s already a copy of the movies and even without any information, it’s a trope done repeatedly. Not only is it shows like these but also movies. Need an example? 65 is a movie that honestly feels like they’ve tried to merge a futuristic movie and the dinosaur age without any good parts. There’s no love shown in this movie and brings a simple plot that’s boring enough to make money. Not to mention, art and music have been becoming worse with their lyrics or symbolism.
Modern art is not art. Don’t get me wrong, it’s alright but what’s the meaning behind any of it? It’s like some are actually good but most of them are just circles, squares, or just scribbles that people are analyzing to the point where it’s just meaningless. Old art had a lot of symbolism and meaning with countless stories in those paintings. If objects and scribbles have meaning, I might as well just draw a stick figure and sell it for 1.5 million dollars. Music also seems to be getting worse. These days, it’s been way harder to find new music that is interesting since it’s just the same song or just remade into their own. Some lyrics are even the same making the whole music industry right now just kind of bland. It’s not helping that some artists are using Tiktok as their promotion; creating only one catchy song and a bad album.
While these examples seem enough to make you stop watching anything and listening to music, there’s been some good shows/movies that keep getting better. A24 an independent production company has been rising up the charts lately. With their recent winning Oscar actors and movies, like Everything Everywhere All at Once and The Whale; it’s been getting a lot of attention for this production company. Even some of the cast from their movies have been getting a lot of attention and even featured in shows such as American Born Chinese as one of the main characters. A24’s future movies and shows seem to be as it’s clearly seen that the people care more about quality than quantity making the whole thing even better. Another one would be DreamWorks. They’ve been on a roll with their storytelling, relatable experiences, and great creativity. Puss in Boots the Last Wish was a killer as audiences felt relatable to the characters and the storytelling. These are only some of the shows/movies that have been getting better making it seem hopeful that they’ll be getting better.
Overall, the entire art industry seems to be in a spiral as they just produce remakes making it obvious that they’re running out of ideas. Despite these boring or unnecessary movies, a lot of new or old companies are making a comeback showing their full blast of creativity and love for their ideas. In the end, that’s the thing that matters and the amount of thought put into those ideas to make them a reality.
