Club members and students adapt to new location for Club Rush

CLUB RUSH:
Samo students made their way to this year's annual Club Rush event on Friday, Sept. 14, during which club members recruited students to join their respective organizations. The event was moved to the Administrative Quad due to the re-sodding of the Science Quad, where the event previously took place, according to senior Associated Student Body (ASB) Club Commissioner Ardsley Sanders. With the lack of space and tables in the Administrative Quad, however, the event felt like a free-for-all, junior Michael Sze said."There [were] too many people for the space, and I [felt] so uncomfortable that I [wanted] to leave," Sze said. With the abandonment of the previous Club Rush set-up, which provided each organization with a table, many club representatives had to make innovations in the way they attracted students to learn about their clubs, according to senior and K.I.N.D. club president Ilana Greenberg. Many club members walked through the body of students brandishing signs, chanting and handing out flyers. Senior Team Marine members Addie Browne and Marissa Kudo marketed their organization by dressing in outfits constructed out of bottle caps and plastic bags.According to freshman Romie Drori, Club Rush did its job as far as intriguing students and introducing them to the various clubs on campus."I loved the experience of seeing all the clubs we have on campus, and all the outgoing students who run them," Drori said.Freshman ASB member Ben Ross said he appreciated the concept of Club Rush, which was new to him."It is unique to have all these clubs gathered together in one place," Ross said. "It is such a big campus, where so many people can hide in their corners, and this event brings it all together."mgumbel@thesamohi.com
