Illuminate down as year ends
Nadine MelamedMax GumbelSenior Online EditorCulture EditorIlluminate crashed on May 28 and 29, leaving students and faculty without access to grades and attendance records online.According to O-House Assistant Eileen Gilbert, the system’s crash was untimely given the proximity to end of the year report cards.“Being down for a day and a half made it difficult to be on top of everything,” Gilbert said.Illuminate has not entirely explained or resolved the issue, and teachers have been forced to submit attendance on paper, according to H-House Principal Leslie Wells.According to a press release from Illuminate’s CEO and Founder Lane D. Rankin, the site is expected to be up by the end of May 30.“We will be staying at the office tonight until everyone of our clients’ sites is up and running and all of our systems are fully functional including the parent portal, item bank, online testing and Activate Instruction,” Rankin said.English teacher Amy Chapman, however, sees the crash as only a minor bump in the road.“It was a little bit stressful,” Chapman said. “But it wasn’t the end of the world.”nmelamed@thesamohi.commgumbel@thesamohi.com
