Principal Eva Mayoral presents new philosophy for Samo students
After three years of working elsewhere in the district, Eva Mayoral has returned to Samo as principal."I know Mayoral wanted to convey a sense of unity, family and togetherness to us as a faculty," English teacher Amy Chapman said.As part of Mayoral's administrative philosophy, she plans to view the school as a single entity, or a family. According to a 2012 interview, Mayoral is primarily interested in investing in all groups of people at Samo, from students to fellow administrators."Knowing us and knowing our students and knowing how important a level of care, love and concern is important to us as a whole faculty," Chapman said. "We need to know, love and trust people in order to work with them."According to Mayoral, she hopes to instill a greater appreciation for learning that extends beyond the simplicity of right versus wrong, and create a safe space in which people can apply their knowledge and be constructive."It's important to me that students feel confident enough in themselves to put it out there and know that there are going to be other people who respond to that, provide insight and maybe even disagree," Mayoral said.According to Mayoral, she also hopes to have direct communication with Samo students, and wants to provide a mutual support system in which everyone can feel a sense of safety and better their education."The whole idea of we are Samo, we are a family, is about trying to create a safety and better their education," Mayoral said. "For it to be safe, for us to just be us and for us to be accepting of one another. We need to accept each other's strengths and weaknesses so we can feel that we can be safe and vulnerable with each other."
