Introducing the new House Principals: M-House

Elias Miles began his appointment as new M-house principal Aug. 22 as one of five new Samo administrators hired for the 2013-14 school year.After teaching students in South Central for three years and Westchester for three years, Miles was elected as coordinator in charge of testing, English learner programs, Title 1 and transportation at Westchester. He then became an assistant principal for two years before accepting his new role at Samo.Miles also evaluates UCLA applications and interviews students for the University of Chicago. This year, he hopes to assist students in the college application process.“I would like to bring a much tighter knowledge to the student body about what it takes to get into a highly selective university, and how to make yourself more competitive for the UC system,” Miles said.According to Miles, beyond education his interests lay primarily in diversity and appealing to a wide range of students.“Santa Monica is your quintessential all American high school, and it's really special in that way,” Miles said. “Santa Monica has everybody in the city, and there are high income areas and low income areas in Santa Monica. Every single one of the kids comes here."
