M-House Senior Dinner
M-House held a dinner in honor of its graduating seniors on May 23, which included poetic and musical accompaniment from percussionists Julian Mickelson ('13) and Brandon Pearl ('13). According to Mickelson, marimbas are percussion instruments of African origin whose bars are arranged in the same manner as pianos and are of the xylophone family."I was pretty nervous at first, but once we started playing I really got into the music and relaxed into it," Mickelson said.M-House Principal Stephen Franklin said that local restaurants catered the event with a variety of dishes."This year Fritto Misto will be doing the honors," Franklin said. "Dinner was a buffet, with potential allergens identified on labels in front of each dish."Event coordinator Maribel Pulido said the dinner included many different types of multi-media entertainment. “We had a student DJ, student presentations, a slide show and awards,” Pulido said. “It was a great night.”Alexandra Ebanks ('13) opened the night with a speech thanking the counselors and staff of M-House for thier contribution and help.“Whether we needed schedule changes or just needed to talk to someone, Ms. Pulido was there to deal with our craziness," Ebanks said.Ebanks went on to praise the counselors, secretary Leslee McGee, Franklin and ex-M-House principal Larry Boon for their dedication as well. The night continued with Mickelson and Pearl preforming a marimba duet entitled "Naogoya Marimbas" by Steve Reich."It was a really fun event and I'm glad that we got the opportunity to perform," Mickelson said.Ebanks appreciated her time in M-House.“From the first day we stepped on campus to graduation day, M-House has been there every step of the way,” Ebanks said.
