Metamorphosis: AP Art ends year with a transforming twist
Samo’s AP Art show, held in the Roberts Art Gallery on April 1, allowed the AP Art students to show off their exquisite talents and abilities. The theme, “Metamorphosis,” represented the change that takes place throughout the final year of high school.“I was thinking since it’s near the end of the year, there’s been a big change. We’ve been through a lot, and we’re all coming out in different ways,” senior Amy Clark, the show’s co-coordinator, said.Though there have been AP Art shows in the past, they had showcased only the senior artists; this year, Clark and co-coordinator senior Leah Pomerantz wanted this show to exhibit the works of the entire AP Art class. The point of the show was to raise more awareness for the AP Art program.“We want to get AP Art more known, because right now we’re really low-key,” Pomerantz said.Another of the show’s new features was the live drawing. Several easles were situated in the gallery, with an AP Art student at each, sketching the musicians performing in the center of the room. While all of the art was done by students in class, Clark and Pomerantz put in a lot of additional time taking pieces home and setting up the gallery — a two-day long process.“Having Leah to work with was really great. We both planned the gallery and set it up together,” Clark said. “And, since I’m in second period [AP Art], it was really helpful to have someone from first period.”The show was very successful, and many students attended. All the art was very skillfully crafted, and should hopefully attract more attention to the talent in the AP Art program.Lily CainCampus Life Editorlcain@thesamohi.com
