Volleyball beats Beverly for the third time this season

Chelsea BrandweinStaff WriterIndex fingers pointed up to the vaulted ceiling, fans rose to cheer on the boys' volleyball team at their last game before playoffs, as they awaited the twenty fifth point in each game. The Vikings won in three games, beating rival Beverly for the third time this season, 25-12, 25-22, 25-16.“I was glad to have all our fans here, it helped us in the first game,” senior Ryan Odening said.While overall the team was content with their plays, senior setter/ outside hitter, David Cline recognizes the team's lack of focus in their second game compared to their first and final games.“I thought we did well in the first and third game but maybe lost a little focus in the second one. Overall, we took care of business and we're ready for the playoffs.”For the eight seniors on the team, this game was a culminating event.“We won it for the seniors,” junior Ethan Kahan said.After the game, team parents showered the seniors with bouquets of flowers and bunches of blue and gold balloons.Senior middle blocker Charlie Schmittdiel reflected on how when it comes to the volleyball team, it's all in the family. “Being on the court with each other for so long, we're like brothers.”cbrandwein@thesamohi.com
