Boys' water polo defeated by Culver City
Adrianna DinolfoSports EditorAfter a long, intense battle against Culver City Oct. 26, boys' water polo suffered a disappointing loss of 8-9.This game marks their second loss of the season to Culver City, both by one point. The Samo team currently holds a 3-3 record in league. Frustrated by their loss, the boys aim to improve their overall strategy.Towards the middle of the first period Samo was up 3-1. By the end of the third period, Culver had scored five goals, and Samo only one, leaving the score 4-6. Within the fourth period, the boys managed two more points, ending the game at a tie. Anxious, the teams were forced to go into two three-minute overtimes to settle the game.Within the first overtime, Samo scored twice and kept a shutout on Culver so they couldn't score. This left the score at 8-6 with only one more three-minute overtime to decide the score. Unfortunately, Samo fell apart within the second overtime. Unable to execute proper defense, Samo allowed Culver to score three goals within three minutes, ending the game with an aggravating 8-9 score."It's really frustrating because we have the cause, and will, and strength and means to win games and dominate our opponents but we just don't," senior Brian Kong said. "The game today was painful to watch."Hoping to improve their skill and boost their morale, the team will go to the Hank Vallenkamp Tournament in Orange County on Oct. 28-29.adinolfo@thesamohi.com
