Girls' golf defeated by Marlborough on Oct. 9
The girls' golf team played Malborough on Tuesday, Oct. 9 and lost 291-231, which is an improvement from its previous scores. According to junior Angelina Hwang, the team keeps improving. Last week's match, which was against Beverly, was also a loss, but showed promise for the rest of the season."I scored a birdie on the first hole and then pars for the rest except three holes," Hwang said.Samantha Gillespie made a clip shot that made it into the hole from far away, and other team members made improvements during the game.Although the team has yet to win a match, it is coming closer with every game it plays. The score of the first match was 320-167, while the team only lost by 60 points in the most recent match.Coach Ryan Hoffman also thinks the team has been improving over the season, and Thursday's match against Marlborough gave girls' golf their best score of the season, 243-279."On Tuesday's match we played on the Wilshire County Club Course, which is the toughest course we've played on so far," Hoffman said. "We've improved, and our individual scores have gotten better."Next week, Hwang and freshman Tiana Elliston will be competing in an individual 18-hole tournament at Lakewood Golf Course.cgoldberg@thesamohi.com
