Girls' tennis defeats Beverly Hills on Oct. 9
After three hours of play, girls' tennis pulled through and beat Beverly Hills High School 10-8.Samo won the first round with a commanding score of 5-1 highlighted by singles victories from junior Christine Maddox and freshman Rowan Cheung, and doubles victories from junior Julia Gordon and senior and co-captain Natalie Yeliokumson, sophomores Layla Parvis and Samantha Ahn and sophomores Anna Rooke and Kristina Ahn.“I think we really dominated on keeping the ball in court and having really good rallies,” Ahn said.The team has been working very hard during practice to improve and be prepared for matches like these, according to Yeliokumson.“Our girls really stepped up this time and pushed through the match,” senior and co-captain Melanie Shaevel said.Samo was equally commanding during the second round coming away with a score of 9-3 punctuated by a 6-0 win from Maddox and a hard fought tie break win by Ahn and Parvis.During the third round of play, Beverly came on strong winning 5 out of the 6 matches, but Samo managed to pull through finally ending the game with a two point lead of 10-8.“The team played really well, we played well as a team and really supported each other,” Ahn said.ewergeles@thesamohi.com
