Girls' soccer beats Culver City 4-2
Jones PitskerStaff WriterGirls’ soccer defeated Culver City High School on Jan. 13, ending with a victory of 4-2.“This was a big win, and our resolve, fight and energy allowed us to beat Culver,” coach Chapman said. “This time last year, we were having tie games with few victories, but this year we’re winning more often.”The two deciding goals of the game, made by freshman Riley Newkirk and junior Ella Warshauer, pulled Samo ahead of Culver and struck at the critical moment, allowing them to win the game.“We’ve been learning to play together more,” coach Angel Vasquez said. “The game started slow, but we improved on our play style. This season is going to be important, and we have a shot at winning Ocean League.”Chapman said that Samo is hoping for an Ocean League victory, but they have some competition.“There are three main teams going for Ocean, Beverly, Culver, and us,” Chapman said. “Winning against Culver puts us in the driver seat for Ocean, but also puts a big target mark on our back. We need to work together and improve if we want to win Ocean.”jpitsker@thesamohi.com
