Girls' soccer defeated by rival Beverly Hills

Jones PitskerStaff WriterAfter a long game on Jan. 18, girls’ soccer was bested by rival Beverly Hills High School, and lost 2-1.“I’m disappointed with our performance today,” co-captain Kristen Vasquez said. “We definitely didn’t live up to our potential and didn’t show our abilities as a team. It’s disappointing to suffer such a big loss, because it puts us behind in the league.”Neither team scored during the first half of the game. Late during the second half, junior Ella Warshauer scored a goal in quick succession after a goal by Beverly, forcing the game to go into overtime. Beverly, however, managed to make a goal during this time and pulled ahead of Samo, winning them the game.“The problem this game was that while we had strong defense, we weren’t hungry enough to score,” Vasquez said. “We needed that extra push to make a goal, and today we didn’t have it.”Coach Jimmy Chapman says that the team is learning to work better as a team.“We’re a lot more cohesive this year,” Chapman said. “We now need to learn how to use that to win our games.”Despite this loss, Vasquez is hopeful for the future of the season.“We’re looking forward to winning again, and showing the other teams that we can play to win,” Vasquez said.jpitsker@thesamohi.com
