Saturday, Nov. 1st: We Heart Garden Apartments!
In a small hidden area of Los Angeles lies Village Green in Baldwin Hills. This complex of garden apartments and magnificent parks was designed in the early 1940s by Reginald D. Johnson, Lewis E. Wilson, Edwin E. Merrill, Robert E. Alexander, Clarence S. Stein and landscape architect Fred Barlow, Jr. This weekend the Los Angeles Conservancy is hosting tours of a few of them, with stops in Village Green, Chase Knolls in Sherman Oaks (1948) and Lincoln Place in Venice (1951), which is newly opened following a contested rehab and redevelopment process. The event will also inform participants about Conservancy's efforts to preserve Wyvernwood in Boyle Heights (1939), L.A.’s first large-scale garden apartment community.
Where: Check-in at Wilshire Ebell Theater, 4401 8th St., Los Angeles, 90005
Tickets: $35 for the public; $25 for Conservancy members
