Ted Lieu elected

On Thursday April 20, Ted Lieu, a U.S. House of Representatives from California’s 33rd District which stretches from Malibu to Palos Verdes, including Beverly Hills and Santa Monica, held his Town Meeting in Samo’s very own Barnum Hall.Ted Lieu, a Democrat and a self-proclaimed adversary of Trump, held this meeting not only with the goal to get re-elected to the House of Representatives, but also to turn the House blue, a process which would require flipping 24 seats to Democrat.Appropriately, Lieu began his speech by wishing his nearly packed audience a “Merry 4/20”, a joke that seemed to please the predominantly liberal crowd. Then, he discussed his background: born from an immigrant family who had followed the American Dream, Lieu joined the air force but later became a lawyer. He announced that his goal as a politician is to protect the American Dream.Lieu did not try to make it a secret that his main goal was to resist Donald Trump; he openly exposed the hypocrisy, incompetence and danger of the new administration. Lieu explained that through attacks on institutions and free speech and through pathological lies, America was slipping in an authoritarian regime.From there, the Congressman divided his speech into three parts; first he discussed Trumpcare. He explained his belief that it was a failure, will be a failure, and explained why he believed it must be prevented.“With Trumpcare, 23 million people will not have healthcare,” Lieu said.From there, Lieu talked about the White House’s foreign policy. While Lieu said he was not ethically against the use of force to extinguish terrorism, he opposes the use of force without strategy, a process he claims Trump seems to be following. He believes this may put the United States and the entire world in danger. Lastly, the Congressman discussed the hypocrisy behind the Trump administration’s contact with Russia. He even hinted towards impeachment.Finally, Lieu concluded his speech by explaining the steps which must be taken in order to stop Trump. He explained that the main priority was to win the House of Representatives in a year and a half.“From the 24 seats which must be turned over, seven could be in California,” Lieu said.Along with that, supporting free speech and associations such as LIEU Leadership PAC are important in order to stop Trump.The elections for the House of Representatives during which 435 congressmen will be elected will take place on November 6, 2018. Ted Lieu will be running for California’s 33rd District, and will be hoping Democrats can take a majority by winning 218 seats.
