Boys lacrosse beats district rival Malibu by 17
Samo creamed Malibu in a massacre of a game with a score of 20-3 on Tuesday, April 5. In the beginning, Samo didn’t score as fast as the coaches would have liked, so they yelled at their players to get one in the goal. Finally, the team got their first of many goals within the first two minutes. “We played really well,” attack Joseph Kean (’19). “We didn’t really have a lot of competition. We moved the ball around and got goals. But we could improve on staying aggressive, for example defense getting on their hands or offense scoring more goals.”From the first goal and on, Samo had possession of the ball for the majority of the game and dominated the field. With a few slip ups, Samo let Malibu score on them but not without another seven goals to comeback with. One key factor in the win was midfielder Griffin James’ (’18) school record seven goals. With him scoring at will, the Vikings are very tough to defeat.“[Samo] still has room to improve to play against our league opponents,” head coach Ben Keiser said. “Today was a good stepping stone for the season but we need to keep in the intensity on defense and pressuring the ball more.” With 5 losses and 4 wins, Samo is making a comeback in the win column and is hoping to get better as the season progresses. “Their work ethic is getting better everyday in practice and translating that into the game is the goal” Keiser said.
