Boys volleyball serves up 2017 season against Beverly Hills

Boys volleyball kicked off their first season with a victory against Beverly Hills High School on March 7, once again proving their convictions to hold true. According to co-captain Rowdy Lennon (’17), he anticipates a well-improved season for the team as a whole, due to the current team structure. With many of them seniors, all have progressed since freshman year and are excited for this year. “In preseason we have been doing very well, we played in a tournament at redondo that we took fifth in. This is the first year since I've been on the team that we've won a game on the qualifying day. Compared to last year we have really improved,” Lennon said.Coach Liane Sato has groomed the boys for an industrious season ahead-both mentally and physically. According to Sam Wittert, the team focusing on dexterity and endurance doing a lot of cardio and weight training. “Our coach focuses on our fundamentals, keeping the energy on our side of the court, and going for every ball,” Wittert said. “We will be successful by working as a team, building on each other's strengths, and solidifying the skills we already have.”As for Lennon, he aims to take the team onto CIF victory. He hopes to have the 2017 banner up in the North Gym and believes that with the team’s talent, it isn’t a pipe dream.“This year we are very strong at every position and since we've been playing so much together for four years everyone has great chemistry on and off the court. It's like playing the sport you love with all your best friends,” Lennon said. The team has high hopes for what’s next to come and hopes to get win that CIF banner. As for the next weeks to come, they intent to win every game.
