Football beats Beverly, 41-0

On a cool and rainy Halloween night, Samo football swept the Beverly Hills High Normans 41-0. Samo’s season record is currently standing at 5-4 and the team’s league record is 3-1.

Samo began the first quarter with strong defense, as the team made two sacks within the first minute. Samo scored three touchdowns in the first quarter, one of which immediately followed a Beverly fumble.

Samo continued to pile up points in the second quarter, scoring two touchdowns and bringing the halftime score to 35-0. According to Clark, the offensive line was crucial in Samo’s offensive outburst.

In the second quarter, running back Zach Cooper (’16) ran a 27-yard touchdown. Cooper scored a touchdown later in the third quarter.

Samo continued to play good defense in the fourth quarter, highlighted by a sack from defensive end Terrance Jackson (’15) that solidified the 41-0 victory.

Samo now looks ahead into the last and most important game. The team will have a chance to tie for the Ocean League championship title and qualify for the California Interscholastic Federation playoffs if it beats the undefeated El Segundo Eagles on Friday, Nov. 7.

“The boys played well,” Clark said. “They came out aggressive; they were hungry. We’re focused on El Segundo at this point in time.”
