Girls lacrosse edges Marlborough 13-10
The Samo girls lacrosse team won 13-10 against Marlborough in their final home game on Wednesday, April 20. “The game was amazing,” Anaya Counts (’19) said. “It was our senior game so [our seniors] won’t be here next year. Our defense was really good, settling on attack, everyone did a great job overall.” Although girls lacrosse lost their away game against Marlborough, winning the home game made the win even better, according to Prairie Morgan (’18). Even though they won their game, it was hard to not to notice that the referees were biased against Samo. There was a lot of tension between the coaches and the referees throughout the game. When the final buzzer went off to end the game, the referees did not end the game until the Samo coaches went onto the field to yells at the refs.“I definitely think that they were biased but that just made the win even better,” Counts said. Samo girls lacrosse only had four players come back to play for them from last year’s team so the majority of the team was new. Because of this, there has been chemistry difficulties at times this season, according to head coach Sam Slama.“I think we really came together as a team,” Slama said. “The last time [we played them] they hadn’t really click yet. It takes a while for a tiem to play together and after a while they figure out how each other play and everything. So I think that at this point in the season we finally have hit that stride and you could hear it on the sideline even.”
