Blueface's Samo concert: never cancelled??
Last week, anonymous students leaked video-surveillance footage revealing the rapper known as “Blueface” performing in the Innovation Building’s second floor boys bathroom. The video immediately went viral. “I was trying to hack my stupid Chromebook during chem to send my Snapchat streaks, but my friend only had the Youtube-chromebook-hack. For some reason we searched up Blueface, and this video came up. We were like ‘bro, no way, didn’t this get canceled?’” Joe Scrub (’22) said. As many recall, the controversial rapper launched the Samo community into a frenzy during October 2018, when Blueface almost hosted a rave around his Lambo at the Michigan gate. Though the school lost the Instagram poll to Pasadena High School, Samo used its NoMo instincts to bribe the rapper, who then verified securement of “the bag” from Samo on his Instagram story. Right before the concert, though, to many students’ dismay, Principal “Dr. Downer” Antonio Shelton supposedly forbade him from performing. However, new information suggests Shelton had another plan in mind. In the leaked-video, Shelton sits criss-cross-applesauce on the bathroom floor, mouthing words while Blueface pours his heart into an unplugged mic. “I know I made a huge stink about it, I shut down the whole thing pretty quickly, and y’all got sad because of that competition on the ‘gram. But I shut it down because I wanted this Blueface guy all to myself. That guy’s pretty turnt, man. Turnt--that’s what y’all kids in L.A. say these days right? That Blueface kid is TURNT, y’all. Man, he’s too turnt for y’all. Turnt enough for Antonio, though,” Shelton said, gazing off, bars racing through his head. Shelton’s secret love of Blueface was not the only shock of the scandal. During his performance, Blueface had an impromptu partner: English teacher Chon Lee, who insisted upon performing as a backup dancer. When asked why he decided to dance for Blueface, Lee stated that he has never heard such a talented lyricist. “He’s the second coming of Shakespeare! How could I resist?” Lee said in a public statement last week after the scandal was uncovered. Lee then began to recite Shakespeare Sonnet 18 to demonstrate his genuine love for the Compton-based rapper. “Shall I compare Blueface to a summer’s day? Thou art more lovely and more temperate,” Lee sang. He continued reciting the sonnet sporadically for the rest of the interview. At every mention of Blueface’s name, Lee’s eyes glimmered with idolization. “It’s such a travesty that you kids couldn’t watch him perform. Maybe one day,” Lee said, clasping his hands together as he looked off into the distance, clearly emotional in his response. “Maybe one day, you too can watch him live like Mr. Lee did.”
