Samo math scores plummet after Coolmathgames.com is blocked from the server
Samo Juniors received their CAASPP math results early this year due to an investigation into scores’ irregularity launched by the State Board of Education. “I don’t get it,” Math Department Chair Marae Cruce said. “We have been trying to beat the English Department and really thought we had a chance this year. I guess our students couldn’t rise to the occasion.” And rise they could not, as reflected in their record-breaking low test scores. “Normally we have to wait until May to get this data, but apparently our scores were so low, with 95% of our students not meeting standards, that state regulators thought there had been some mistake or computer glitch,” Samo Principal Dr. Antonio Shelton said. After a thorough investigation, it was determined that there were no technological difficulties; all juniors were using the new Chromebooks they were recently issued. In fact, Samo tech specialists were lauded for their work in keeping students off "coolmathgames.com" and other “dangerous” websites with the new content blocker. Samo Admin has reported that Math scores on the CAASPP declined this year despite concerted efforts of Math teachers to increase scores by exempting juniors for final exams. Although scores have not officially been released throughout California, CAASPP specifically alerted Samo about the abnormally poor test scores, concerned that it may be due to a computer glitch or malfunction in the system. The only computer issue however, is that the new chromebooks distributed to juniors restricted access to the infamous Cool Math Games. “How can they expect me to score well when I can’t play Run 3 or Papa’s Pizzeria? No Watergirl and Lava Boy, are you kidding me?” student John-Kelly Alko (’20) said.
