Samo football can be described very shortly in two words: hard working. Entering this season, football put in all their effort and set their mind on one thing, bringing home wins. This year Samo varsity football ended their season with a 3-7 league score, learning a lot and already thinking about what they can improve next season. “This year we have improved a lot on working together, catching on our own mistakes for the betterment of the team. This, in addition, helped us to grow a team bond that I won’t forget,” Cy Bunayog (’18) said. Although the team had a slow start to the season, things started to look better when Samo won their first game against South Torrance 26-0 on Sept. 22.“Our first win had me and the whole team excited. We worked really well as a team, fixing our mistakes and communicating with each other. We showed one another what we should be doing every time we play,” Kayden Thomas (’20) said. After that, Samo put in an immense amount of work to keep bringing home wins. Working through the bumps in the road, Samo finished off the season with winning two more games against Beverly Hills 35-7 and Hawthorne 42-14Looking back on this season, all players are looking at what they can improve on next year. Football has a goal of bringing home wins and making Samo proud. “We need to improve on making sure we know our blocking assignments and that’s not just for the line, that’s also directed towards the running backs and wide receivers,” Donovan Parks (’20) said. Despite the ups and downs in this years football season, the team has bonded and learned from their mistakes. Returning and incoming varsity players are thinking about what they can do better next year, as they celebrate a memorable season. “This year, we have become a family. We have gone through things together and I think that’s what really made this season something I’ll never forget,” Parks said.
