Girls' lacrosse ready for a season of growth
Girls’ varsity lacrosse kicked off their season last weekend with their first win in two years. The girls played a tournament, bringing home a 5-4 win. Unfortunately, they lost their most recent game against Chadwick High School, who are ranked number one in their league. Despite their loss, the lacrosse team has used their unlikely first win to boost their confidence and feel prepared for their upcoming season. “It’s going to be hard and we’re going to have to work for it but this first win has done more for our team than we ever could have hoped for,” Lili Ignon (’19) said. During the fall, the team had early morning and Saturday training, on top of their routine after school practices. As they practiced their plays and worked on their skill, they also got to know each other more than ever, and started to form bonds on and off the field. Their communication strengthened, and with that, so did their team. “I love how close our team has become, too. I think we’ll have a much stronger season this year if everyone continues to work this hard,” co-captain Deniz Uzun (’19) said. Coach Brian Patenaude says that captains Cat Johnson (’19) and Uzun lead a great example on and off the field, and is confident they can lead the players into a great season. In the end, however, it is up to the team as a whole to put in the work. “We have a young team that works hard and plays together. I am very confident going into this season,” Patenaude Varsity girls’ lacrosse’s next home game will take place on March 25 at 5 p.m. Despite their recent losses, they are optimistic about their home game and hope their school will come to support them!
