Swim confident in big waves this season

After the conclusion of the boys’ and girls’ water polo seasons, the two teams are now coming together for Samo’s second aquatic sport of the year, representing Samo’s swim team for the 2019 season.  The team has a whopping 91 members, consisting of 29 freshman, 33 sophomores, 20 juniors and nine seniors. The team will have five home meets and five away meets in their 10 meet season, and is really making a push to succeed in the playoffs. After their first couple meets, swimmer Emma Guerrini Romano (’20) is happy about the way the season is going and is thrilled with the progress the team has been making. “The team this year is really strong because of the influx of club team swimmers that joined. We have been focusing on fine tuning our dives and streamlines this season as well,”  Guerrini Romano said. Of the 91 members of the team this year, 46 also compete in club swimming, giving the team even more experience and practice. As for the coach, Matt Flanders is ecstatic about the season and is very glad that lots of his water polo players are participating in swim this year “Swimming and waterpolo compliment each other, making a more well rounded aquatics competitor,” Flanders said.  As the two sports go hand in hand, Coach Flanders is happy about the extra practice and conditioning that his water polo players will get from swimming and vice versa.  As the team looks to the future of the season, both the players and Coach Flanders believe that the team is capable of making a run in CIF. “The team as a whole has great potential to qualify and even win some individual CIF races!” Guerrini Romano said.  The experience and overall talent of the team has set up a winning culture, something that will be great to have in the coming season. The team will have five more meets and is going to be a driving force come league meet time.
