Softball on deck for upcoming season
The softball team has been practicing all year for the start of the season, and the time is finally here. With a new field and spot on campus, the team is excited to start playing. This is a very important season for the team, as it is their first season back as a part of Samo’s campus. The players are excited to be back and invite Samo’s staff and students to be more involved in the softball program. Coach Kalie Nakao (’11) explained how the new field will change the dynamic of this softball season. “The girls like to see their peers cheering them on; to have the home crowd behind them. Here at school you see them, and they respond to it,” Nakao said. The players have been working hard to prepare for this season. The girls have spent tough hours conditioning and long practices on the field preparing. They also participated in preseason scrimmages and tournaments, which helped the team pinpoint skills they needed to work on. Witnessing the hard work the players have put in, Nakao has high hopes for the upcoming season. “Our goals for the season are to play as a unit & get our freshman on page with our seniors. [OUr goals are] to win Ocean League, make playoffs and make a solid run for a CIF title,” Nakao said. Senior player Nicole Aguirre (’18) shared her pride for the team and how far they have come. “Our girls have worked so hard this year with all the changes that are happening, and I'm just so proud of our team this year with really pulling through and working really well all together.” Aguirre said.
