Boys' volleyball starts season strong

On Thursday, Feb. 28, boys’ volleyball got their season off to a great start with a hard earned win against Torrance High School. The teams were evenly matched and played competitively throughout the game, which lasted five sets. After losing the first two, Torrance fought hard and stole the third and fourth. However, Samo pulled through in the end, winning the final set and game. Winning the fifth set was a collective effort, though impressive setting from co-captain Jake Mitchell (’19) could not go unnoticed by any spectator, despite having an injured hand. “My hand wasn’t too badly injured, but my teammates did what they could to make my task of setting easier (e.g. good passing, good attacking, etc.),” Mitchell said. Tanner Clark (’21), a new member to both the team and indoor volleyball, played strongly and consistently. Following his first game, he is grateful for his opportunity with the team and is excited to see where the season goes. “Indoor is great because I have teammates who help to teach me new things. I think I played well in the game, but as a unit we have some things to work on. I think if we can just find ourselves as a team, we will have a really successful year,” Clark said. Coach Liane Sato feels the boys are ready to fight for the win again against Culver City High School on Tuesday, March 5. “We did some good things and we definitely found some things we need to fine tune. We feel great [going into the next game and rest of season], the guys are always excited when they get a chance to compete! Go Vikings!” Sato said.
