Prom King and Queen

Announced over the loudspeakers a few days before Prom, prom royalty include: Jillian Brander,  Jessica Brown, Sadie Lovett, Quinn Macmahon, Yoyo Mihret, Issac Rockwell, Alex Salamati, Sebastian Soja and Catrina Zolkin. During prom, after votes from the senior class, Yoyo Mihret and Sadie Lovett were announced prom king and queen.

Prom king - Yoyo mihret

While Yoyo Mihret (’23), a previous homecoming court member, considered the possibilities of becoming prom king, he was still shocked when he won.

“I feel blessed to be given this amazing opportunity to represent the class of ’23,” Mihret said.

Mihret, the current senior class treasurer, has been in ASB all four years of high school, holding roles such as freshman and sophomore class vice president. He has also been a member of the tennis and basketball teams, playing tennis all four years and basketball freshman and sophomore year. He will remember his experience at Samo very fondly.

“I’ve met some amazing people through the years and created relationships with people that I’ll value for years,” Mihret said.

While he thought the after-party was better than prom itself, he enjoyed the music and food at the prom.

“The dance floor was also really nice and seeing everyone have a good time was amazing.”

Prom queen - Sadie Lovett

Sadie Lovett (’23), also previously on the homecoming court, was so surprised to hear she was nominated to be prom queen.

“I didn’t even hear it the first time they announced it so my friend told me, and it felt kind of surreal,” Lovett said.

During her time at Samo, Lovett has been in choir all four years of high school and serves as one of the choir presidents. She is on the theater council, runs the theater club, and has performed in every single musical. Her favorite role was Margot, one of Elle’s best friends in Legally Blonde, which she played her Junior year. She has also been in the marching band all four years of high school, playing the clarinet, and was a section leader.

As for when she actually won prom queen, it was even more of a shock.

“I was ecstatic when I won, it was crazy and all my friends were right at the front cheering me on.”

Lovett describes how she and Yoyo were laughing the entire time they danced, amused by the fact that everyone was watching them. She had an amazing night not only at prom, but also beforehand, getting ready and taking pictures with friends.
