Campaigning for senior polls is the only way to win
How many of you in the senior class know that I am running for Biggest Drama King in the senior polls? Probably a very select few of my friends who know how well the title fits me and the 60 odd something who apropos receiving my group text asking them to vote for me, realized the accuracy of the title. Many people in the senior class have brought up the fact that these forms of self-advertising defeat the purpose of a senior “poll.” I can guarantee you that most of you have absolutely no idea who I am or how I express myself and therefore probably decided to put Nick Deagon or one of your close friends down because you have absolutely no clue who is the biggest diva on Samo’s campus.I personally voted for plenty of people who posted on the Class of 2013 Facebook wall, because I genuinely had no idea who I would call in a crisis. By denying the right to declare and flaunt people’s candidacy, you are shutting off the school from the other 800 people in their class and putting down random people from your friend group who have no hope of winning because they will only have your one irrelevant, desperate vote. These campaigning posts do not force you to vote for them. Instead, they leave you with your own choices and decisions, give you suggestions for the ones you had no idea what to put, and let you peruse through some of the cutest couple pictures in the world.I ask the senior class to see these promotions as advice and as a guide to the categories you cannot figure out. If you happen to know everyone in the senior class and what title is indicative of them, by all means, rant about how much you hate everyone and their dreams of winning a senior poll. But, keep in mind that in most cases, people will generally be stumped about who to put for specific categories, and in that case they should be made be made aware of the students who think category applies to them. And, if the Facebook notifications are pissing you off, may I direct you to the upper right hand corner, where you can edit your settings.Nicholas ZarchenPhoto Editor
