Racing ahead: SM5000
The Santa Monica 5000 (SM5000) is a race for funding and bragging rights alike. The annual race, which weaves itself through the streets and bluffs of Santa Monica, kicked off its seventh year on Sunday, Oct. 7 at 7:30 a.m. Samo’s sports teams were avid entrants, making up the bulk of the 900 Santa Monica- Malibu Unified School District [SMMUSD] race participants, in both running the course and raising funds for their respective teams.
Girls’ volleyball ends a successful pre-season and begins league
Coming off of a tough loss in last year’s California Interscholastic Federation [CIF] semifinals against Pasadena Polytechnic High School, girls’ volleyball has trained hard in the pre-season and from their performance in league, the girls say that they are back stronger than ever.

Girls' golf begins season 0-1
Girls' golf lost its first game of the season to Palos Verdes 320 - 167 on Tuesday, Sept. 11. The newly formed team consists of six Samo golfers who have been playing anywhere from two weeks to nine years.

Girls' volleyball hosts comedy night fundraiser
A group of professional comedians and entertainers congregated on Wednesday, May 23 for the third annual Samo girls’ volleyball comedy night fundraiser. The fundraiser’s proceeds go towards paying for the volleyball team’s Ann Kang tournament in Hawaii.
Samo continues its construction
The construction project currently occurring on the Samo campus to develop a new Science and Technology Building and reconfigure the current parking lot is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2014, according to a link on the Santa Monica Malibu Unified School District (SMMUSD) website.

Historically, there have been rivalries among sports teams that have brought with them an attitude that can shift the mood of an entire crowd.
Online Disputes
A sports team is like a family. If an athlete got into a fight on the field, the rest of the team would probably jump in to support him or her, sometimes mediating the fight, sometimes furthering it. Similarly, when athletes get into squabbles on the Internet, their teammates often react the same way.
The crowd presence
You can work as hard as you want at your sport; running in exasperation up the Greek theatre, working out in the gym for hours on end or swimming laps until your muscles can no longer move. But when there is no crowd to fill the seats, all the hard work does not seem to pay off.
